• First Quarter Stories I Like •

Author’s note: Every painting of mine must have a story, so I’ve been reading my chronological Bible, filling in the missing holes, and tying up loose strings to my favorite stories, following the timeline cues to the stories of Israel we get to be part of. I jot down a few things that pop out for me, because I use them as a prop. There is alot of material to curate in the Bible, and I want to make it beautiful. I still have a lot of room and a lot of time to grow in this area. I think I am a visual and the written-verbal learner, so this is pure pleasure for me.

"Red Sunset" 2015 12"x16" oil on panel

“Red Sunset” 2015 12″x16″ oil on panel

What parts will I do differently next time?
°bask longer on top of the water
What parts did I like the first time? °the analogous red color scheme °the layering effect of trees on top of trees in the distant shadow hill ° the S curve in that one tree trunk °the colors I placed around the trees to make them sorta like flicker
Where did this painting end up?
I doted it on my pop, saying,“You’re gonna love this painting I’m sending you, because your best days are like the color red, and you love taking me out on the water!” He replied, “I’m going to love this painting because my girl painted it for me!” I still stagger under his heartfelt sensibilities.

“Sailboat” 2015 12″x16″ oil on panel

What parts will I do differently next time? °erase my funny assumptions of my art ever being sold °calm my water strokes down ten notches to match my poem line “it’s smooth sailing all the way with you”
What parts did I like the first time? °the pinks I snuck in at the horizon °the cluster of curls that are like a curtain °the strong blue grays I mixed and then brushed through the opaque whites coming straight up out of the wake
Where did this painting end up?
how well the yellow grays shimmer on the wall over my orange sectional couch

painted purple cottage

“Purple Cottage” 2016   12″x 16″ oil on panel

What parts will I do differently next time? °paint abstractly °I want to continue the painting by dropping harmony into the trees branching out into the cottage °paint little pink chimney pots pitched in warm sunny spots
What parts did I like the first time? °all the light glaring off the tin roof that won’t stop °the large green trees beside the exotic caribbean blue sky °the tetradic color scheme and that little patch of tinted purple flowers that don’t belong in front of the tree’s shadow  °how I fan brushed some of the flowers
Where did this painting end up?
it’s so messed up, paint is all over it

yellow hillside silver easel

“Ye||ow Hi||side” 2016 10″x20″ oil on panel

What parts will I do differently next time? °paint more pretty evergreens around the cottage °shape up the long green bank °leave more white panel showing through on the bottom edges °leave entirely different brush marks °smooth out and warm up the sky more °paint a ten speed piece of metal soaring down the slope with my feet slipped off the pedals
What parts did I like the first time?
°the beautiful purple grays °painting the hill abstractly
Where did this painting end up?
