“And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.”
— John 17:3

Mighty Intelligence

I wonder who designed all this
the brilliant people in all the Earth
I wonder who designed all this
the cattle on a thousand hills

and oh, I saw your will
you rose above
let’s talk it over
this barricade to love

I wonder who designed all this
the turning leaves in the fall
a Mighty Intelligence
working in all and through all

with the unseen source
contact will be made
a thousand years to heal
our race will not fade

and oh, the places we will go
my eyes are holding

I know the only true God
the grandeur of the skies
I know the One he sent
the constant of sunrise

If there again I never lived
part of me would always be there —
in the Earth.

Headstone

Monet | Break Up of Ice, Lavacourt

Headstone
Like walking in a cemetery, I don’t need a headstone to remember you by, I pass through the panic peaks of weather, the wind is dropping down to only a whisper, I need to go outside and stay, until I put myself together, where the air out there is free, for me, my reality is unraveling, and all I have are a dead man’s clothes to wear, I know I’m a fool but I can’t help it, everything I touch ends up terrible, I need to go outside and stay, until I put myself together, where the air out there is free, for me, I’m afraid I interrupted something, although Graveyard talk is one-sided, the work I do can be done with My eyes shut, We sure pick a funny place to hide, I need to go outside and stay, until I put myself together, where the air out there is free, for me, if I give this up then you’ll know, it was over my dead body, I keep coming back for more, because I live as though dying

Everlasting

Sargent | Roses

Everlasting

I will fill my flask
with new wine at last
blessed is he who keeps his garments

You have loved us with
everlasting love
and preserved us with your covenant

Your arms are Everlasting
Ever to Everlasting
Ever to Everlasting

Ever to Everlasting

In your name I pray
we turn in the way
to your secret place and dwell

I will serve you, Lord
here on €arth and there
in the place you have prepared

Your arms are Everlasting
Ever to Everlasting
Ever to Everlasting

“I want to be outside with the misfits, with the rebels, the dreamers, second-chance givers, the radical grace lavishers, the ones with arms wide open, the courageously vulnerable, and among even—or maybe especially—the ones rejected by the Table as not worthy enough or right enough.”/

// Sarah Bessey

I heard your words

I heard your words
spread a hundred miles north
across many borders
to the ends of the €arth
and I believe in you more
than the sands on the shore
that shift far beyond the harbor

I won’t let go without a blessing
feed me a fig and a morsel of manna
off father Abraham’s antique Table
mercy me, you’re able

my satisfied Savior
you are my theme of praise
you can’t ignore
the power of a sound mind

you know I had a good answer

I heard your words
spread a hundred miles north
across many waters
to the ends of the €arth
and I think of you more
than the sands on the shore
that shift far beyond the horizon

I see pink in your cheeks
for freaks and geeks and ancient Canaanite Greeks
speak sweetly with your voice
the wind has many noises
